- M
- The symbol employed to designate material in the gospel according to Matthew which does not appear in either of the other synoptic gospels, such as the parables of the hidden treasure and the pearl of great price (13:44–6) and the charge to Peter (16:18). It is thought by some NT scholars to derive from traditions preserved in Jerusalem. The infancy narratives (Matt. 1–2), though peculiar to Matt., seem to come from another source of information.
